Stepstone Falls

Location: Washington County, Rhode Island

Water Source: Wood River

Drop: 5 feet

Flow: Spring

Directions: Take Route 102 west from Exeter. At the junction with Routes 3 and 165, take Rt. 165 west for 5.3 miles to Escoheag Hill Road. Turn right onto Escoheag Hill Road for 2.4 miles to Falls River Road. Turn right onto Falls River Road (sand and gravel) and go .6 miles to the small parking area on the right just before a concrete bridge.

Notes: I went to Stepstone Falls in Rhode Island October 20, 2004. The falls is a short walk downstream from the parking area. Although this is designated as a waterfall that flows only in the spring, I visited it in October because I was in the northeast and it was my only chance to get a photo of a Rhode Island waterfall. I expected to see a dry waterfall; however, it was flowing well. I believe hurricanes Ivan and Jeanne had contributed to the water flow of the river.

The second photo is looking upstream from Stepstone Falls.
